I attended a meeting of league commissioners at the GC of D last night and here are the highlights. improving pace of play is a priority for the club this year. In order to do that, two changes are being made to the course this year:
1) drop areas will be employed on certain holes (such as #5, #8, #11 and #15); and
2) the course is strategically growing rough in certain areas to act as a buffer between the fairway and heather (which should cut down on the number of balls entering the heather).
Also, the course will give us more advance notice of outings that might interfere with our tee times this season, allowing us the opportunity to have more time to decide whether we want to play or not on that particular evening. They are also trying to get as many outings as possible to begin their shotguns earlier than in the past so that they do not interfere with our tee times.
The maintenance staff budget has been cut and there won't be as many people to go around and fix ball marks; I would like to tell the course that we have adopted a "fix yours, plus one more" policy; if we make that a league priority and do a good enough job to actually make a noticeable difference, maybe we can get some free golf out of it -- that's my idea, not the GC of D's, but I would like to see us lead the way on this and then other leagues might follow.
Finally, our league pro shop credit will be used on CGA logo half-sleeve Adidas pullovers. More on that later. That's about it. I will post scorecards, the schedule and otherwise update the site throughout the week. This Monday, April 23rd, at 5pm . . . . . . . . it's on. See you there.
