CGA To Invade Black Diamond for 2007 Match Play Championship

Darkness will fall on the city
It seems to follow you too
And though you don't ask for pity
Theres nothin' that you can do, no, no

Whoo, black diamond
Whoo, black diamond

With Kiss providing the backgorund music, CGA Tournament Director Brad Underwood announced on Tuesday that the league has pulled off a major coup by coming to terms with Black Diamond Golf Course to host the 2007 CGA Match Play Championship. The tournament will be held on Saturday, August 25th. At a press conference in his office that was not actually attended by anyone from the press (or anyone else for that matter), Underwood stated, "This could go down as one of the greatest majors ever." Underwood also announced that Black Diamond has submitted a bid to host a future CGA Championship, but would not divulge any further details.

Black Diamond has been the site for several years of one of the most popular non-CGA golf events on the calendar, the Masters Blaster Weekend which was the brainchild of former CGA member (and Living Legend) Eric Osborn and current CGA member Ryan "Dr. Ding Dong" Webb. Anyone that has attended a Masters Blasters knows what to expect at this year's CGA Championship -- mayhem. Times two. The original house located on the golf course sleeps eight . . . . . counting the closet in the living room. The newly renovated cart-barn-turned-bunk-house will sleep 16 when it is completed this summer. Space wranglers beware. Underwood pointed out that the recent announcement by Black Diamond that it would be adding the new, larger bunk facility was the key to the deal. "There's only so many people you can fit in that closet," he stated.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County, Ohio, Black Diamond presents a stern challenge both physically and mentally. The course's internet site boasts: "Meticulous accuracy with every shot is required to even think about playing "bogey golf." Cascading fairways and tiered greens will have you rethinking each and every stroke." According to CGA Commissioner Greg May, the scenic layout is "built on the side of a hill that only a goat could love." But "The Commash" has had a special affection for the course ever since he recorded an "unofficial" hole-in-one on the par 3 8th hole with his second ball in a two-man, two-ball Vegas match with Osborn in 2003. The Commash pointed out that despite its reputation as a "ball buster", CGA members should find much to like about the course, including the unique par 6 seventh hole, which will be the first ever played in CGA competition (not counting number 13 at GC of D).

CGA members are encouraged to mark August 25th down on their calendars. In closing his press conference, Underwood could not contain his excitement any further. With a devilish grin, he warned, "This will be a major that no CGA member will want to miss."
