While over a foot of snow was falling outside, the CGA gathered on Friday night in the cozy confines of the B-Dubs on Bethel Rd. for, ironically enough, it's annual rite of spring -- the Team Draft party. Not even a full fledged-blizzard could keep a healthy turnout of 18 Cronies from ushering in the 2008 season. After welcoming New Guy Steve Porterfield to the league, Defending Team Champion Bret Hosket pulled the first envelope and the draft was on. Here are your 2008 CGA Teams:
Team 1: Bret Hosket / Andy Shaffer
Team 2: Doug May / Steve Geraghty
Team 3: Pete Ebel / Greg May
Team 4: Joe Ayers / Ryan Webb
Team 5: Brad Underwood / Scott Schoemer
Team 6: Shawn Swanson / John Brinkman
Team 7: Jay Feller / Jason Diwik
Team 8: Rob Burkley / Joe Barrett
Team 9: George Tzagournis / Steve Porterfield
Team 10: K. C. Budzik / Bret Southworth
All in all, a very balanced field. Six of the ten teams will start the season with combined handicaps between 7 and 12. The other four teams are tightly grouped between 18 and 21. The gap between the lowest combined handicap (7 - Swanson/Brinkman) and the highest (21 - Undy/Schoemer) is 14 shots. That's quite a departure from last year when the gap was a whopping 29 strokes. Further, there were three teams that started the 2007 season with combined handicaps higher than this year's Undy/Schoemer squad. It all adds up to a very competitive season.

Also, the dates for the majors are set. The Touch 'Em All tournament will be on May 24th at Shaker Run. The CGA Match Play Championship will be on August 23rd, and is tentatively set for Black Diamond.
Yes, there's 20 inches of snow on the ground, but it won't be long before we're touching 'em all once again. So maybe while you are shoveling your driveway you might start thinking of team names. If anyone comes up with any good ones, whether they are for your own team or not, send them to me and I will post a list of them here.
