Shaffer Named 2007 Player of the Year

OK, it's been awhile. This Monday the CGA will be gathering to settle up the finances and pay homage to our 200 7 Champions. First, let's give some credit right here in the Cronyville blog where credit is due. Andy Shaffer won the Individual Championship going away. As Red Numbers, he and his partner Bret Hosket captured all three legs of the Team Championship -- First Half, Second Half and Season. Red Number's performance in the 2007 season, and especially that of Shaffer, was perhaps the most dominating in CGA history. For Hosket it was his second league championship, the other being a Team Championship with Pete Ebel in 2003. For Shaffer, the two titles were the first he has won in his CGA career. In doing so, Shaffer established a single season earnings record of $1400. This eclipsed the old mark of $1275 set by Pete Ebel in 2005 and tied in 2006 again by Ebel. Thus, Shaffer's pick as 2007 Player of the Year was a no-brainer.

More credit where credit is due. Scott Schoemer captured his second consecutive sweep of the major titles, winning both the TEA Tournament at Shaker Run and the 2007 CGA Match Play Championship at Black Diamond. Schoemer has now won four consecutive Match Play Championships, two consecutive TEA titles, and six out of the last seven majors, a truly remarkable feat.

And so, we will all gather at a bar not named Buffalo Wild Wings on Monday, November 5th to honor these champions and, more importantly to some, pay out all of the 2007 prize money. The 2007 Money List has been updated, as well as the Career Money List and of course The Wall of Fame. You will find links to all of these in the Reports section.

Finally, a little something for those of you looking for some motivation to work on your swings in the off-season -- the Hole In One Pot now stands at $940. Me? I'll be putting shrink-wrap on the clubs soon and finding them a place in the crawl space for a long winter's nap. Until next time . . . . . . . touch 'em all.
