You have to hand it to Brad Underwood right now. His fantasy baseball is team is in first place. His golf league team is in first place. He's driving it well and he's putting it well. He's doing everything it takes to win. So you know what you guys should do the next time you see him? You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and just don't give out drink tickets next year. Got it? Or corn dogs or whatever the hell he eats.
OK, it's only two weeks in but something strange has been happening. And I'm not talking about when Schoemer was taking a piss next to me at B-Dubs last night and was explaining about how Undy kept him calm and "in the game" when he had consecutive 360 degree lip-outs on the first two holes. I mean, that was strange. But even stranger is that there seems to be a chemistry on this team that not many league observers saw coming.
And maybe even stranger still is that the person who seems to have flipped on the light switch in the golf room inside Schoemer's brain wasn't even his partner, but a fellow competitor -- none other than Dr. Death himself. Schoemer claims that a tip that Webbie gave him about his alignment has really clicked. Exhibit A would be Scoemer's low net 47/31 that Schoe Me Wood rode to a solid 33.5 to 11.5 win over Light It Up. Undy helped the cause with a 45/38 and an impressive 9 to 6 win over Burkley.
Week Two saw some very spirited competiton, and a couple unusual matches. Boom Goes the Dynamite lit the fuse against Bob Evans, but the dynamite never went "boom". Despite Doug May winning his match over Budzik and the team winning their match, he and Geraghty lost 20 to 25, a rare feat indeed. Bob Evans was able to defuse the bomb thanks to Southie's three birdie 37/34 which resulted in an 11 to 4 win over Geraghty. Although Douger and BGD were able to win their matches, they lost low medal in both for 8 to 7 tallies.
It is also rare to see all three matches in a foursome come out dead even. Even more rare is to see the same team win all three matches 9 to 6 by winning low net by one stroke in each of the three matches, but that is what High and Mighty did to Red Numbers despite a three birdie 37/35 performance from Shaffer. And so perhaps the tightest of all matches in Week Two shows up as a 27 to 18 win for High and Mighty. Not really like kissing your sister if you are Red Numbers. More like getting a reach-around from your uncle.
Week Two was as good as it gets in the CGA (outside of a small tardiness problem that is). The weather was awesome, or at least a lot more awesome than it was in Week One. The competition was strong (which is somewhat surprising at this early juncture in the season). And the sportsmanship and comraderie were in rare form. Great stuff indeed.
