The League Office has returned from yet another one week hiatus, this time to visit the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Thanks to Doug May for stepping in as Acting Commash and finding five subs to play in Week 13. Along with sub stalwarts Dan and Tom Freiburger, two former CGA'ers made their first appearances as subs in Week 13 and a new sub was welcomed to the league. Former CGA Individual Champion Dan Sadd played, as did The Big 'Un himself, Paul Whybrew. Sean Stoner played his first CGA round as a sub. Imagine the boost of confidence you would get showing up at the course an looking at the scorecard to see the word Stoner written in as your opponent. But this Stoner shot a 46/35 to take out K.C. Budzik 12 to 3. That's like, really awesome dude.
The Individual Reports now are kicking out the lowest four point totals of each player and will conitnue to do so through the remainder of the season. Shaffer has jumped out to a 2.5 point lead over The Commash. However, the pressure is squarely on Shaffer to keep it going. His HDS (Highest Discarded Score) is a 6, meaing the lowest point total he could get for missing or losing his next match is 6. The Commash has an HDS of 11. Thus, if both players were to lose this week 11 to 4, The Commash would gain 5 points on Shaffer. Budzik is now 8.5 points behind Shaffer with an HDS of 4.
In the Team Race, High and Mighty took one on the chin in Week 13 to Boom Goes the Dynamite, but the only team that could manage to take full advantage of that was Bob Evans. Bobs is now only 10 points out of first in the Season Team Standings. Carry the Flag and Higher Stakes are 28 and 37.5 back respectively. Only 50 points separates first place from seventh, setting up an exciting sprint to the finish line.
Speaking of the finish line, the GC of D has informed the league that we will not be playing on August 25th due to an afternoon outing. Accordingly, the season will be extended one week to September 8th.
The CGA Championship is scheduled for Saturday, August 23rd. Look for details in the coming week.
