I thought I should take care of some housekeeping issues:
Based on the feedback the league office gathered, we will NOT be playing on April 27th if the Jackets are hosting Detroit in the playoffs. If the Jackets are not playing, we WILL be playing. Due to our long standing relationship with the GC of D, they have allowed us this flexibility.
Again, we are NOT playing on the 27th if the Jackets ARE playing. We are PLAYING if the Jackets are NOT playing.
I attended the league commissioner meeting last night at the GCD. Honestly, walking in I had no idea what to expect. I knew we were the first golf league this course ever had. We might suck at golf, but dammit we have been very loyal to them. I was prepared to handle any Crony complaints head on!! The meeting started by Wes handing out out a pace of play chart. I was laughing as he handed the chart to me. Wes chuckled and stated "If you would just get John Barret to speed up his play, your league would be fine." I did not have the nerve to correct him on the "John", so I told him, that the league chipped in and purchased "John" 3 gloves, 7 ball markers, 17 packs of cigs, 8 divot tools, 9 towels and told him that we think this will put an end to "John" always missing something.
The good news is that there is no league behind us this year, so we should be all right. In addition, to the fact that some nights we will not be filling the 5th tee time.
The GC of D is making a bunch of improvements to their facilities. They are turning the proshop into a restaurant that will be open until 10:00 pm. Flat screens are being added, as well as a new menu. Wes really wants the leagues to hang out after the rounds and has offered some type of deal on beer. He told us that he knows at some point he will be driving a home owner home in a golf cart if all goes as he hopes. I asked if he would ever consider taking Webbie home? He chuckled, I think he thought I was joking. I think we should give the GC of D a shot as a place to grab a couple of beers after the round. I think many more Cronies will hang out after the round if they do not have to go to BWW Bethel. GC of D is also moving their proshop outside, adding a bunch of lighting to the patio, and several other improvements to the facility. However, nothing was discussed about any improvements to the course.
A 70 year old woman commissioner stated to everyone that they were going to tee times this year and the groups are going off on time, whether there is 2 golfers or 4. Loss of hole until the late golfer shows up is there new rule. She commented that those that care about their score will never be late. I told her, we are following her lead and doing the same thing. So when you are late this year and you take a max quad net on the hole(s) you miss, you can bitch to Martha the 70 year old commissioner!! I had to laugh, something to be said for the Cronies following the 70 year old women's league. See you on the first Tee!!
Remember, if you need a sub, let me know by Saturday at midnight. Also, we have enough subs!! We do not need anymore subs.
